Alaw James
Having lived on a farm all my life, I’ve grown up amongst nature, livestock, and the buzz of machinery. Being able to look at the land and document the little moments I see every day is something I love doing. I’m a farmer, photographer, and artist from Ceredigion in Southwest Wales, and my connection to agriculture significantly influences much of my work, inspiring me to capture the beauty of rural life. Though I have a love for photography, art and various crafts, graphite drawings are my speciality, with animals being my favourite subject in particular to bring to life on paper.
Following my time at school, I decided to further my education. I attended Carmarthen School of Art on a year-long Art Foundation course. I stayed on for another three years, this time working towards a Bachelor’s degree in photography, from which I graduated in 2022.
These days, I ultimately prefer spending my days at home with my dogs, the family herd of Pedigree Welsh Black Cattle and my flock of Pedigree Lleyn Sheep. In 2024, I began viewing my artwork in a more professional capacity, with the long-term goal of expanding my portfolio, selling original work and Giclée prints, and bringing people joy through more personalised art commissions.
